What no

I did not just make an FST for that Homestuck fic I'm writing
which is just the songs that I was using for chapter titles

... oh fuck.

Mostly Harmless
Part One

Connect by Claris

As I look back, I see my friends,
and before I realize it I’m tenderly surrounded by them.
In a world where everything was distorted,
I believed in one thing…that there was salvation.

This is the opening song to Puella Magi Madoka Magica... but I thought it was pretty suited for emphasizing the connection between John and his friends, which is pretty much the focus of the first part. Also the fact that John will keep trying and moving forward for what he believes is right. Despite the peppy beat, the singer sounds as though they could quickly descend to fear and desperation, IMO.

Shaking off the darkness that drew close to me, I continue forward.
No matter how big the wall is,
I’ll show you I can overcome it.
I believe in the future, I pray for the future.

Horse With No Name by America

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

For Jade and Dave and Rose, the journey begins; though we don't see it yet, John and Karkat's flight has already started.
I also like this song because of the southwestern setting for the first half of the fic. Crossing deserts with poor planning is serious business you guys. It's got a good tone for the earlier chapters.

The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

One Jump Ahead from Disney's Aladdin

One jump ahead of the slowpokes
One skip ahead of my doom
Next time gonna use a nom de plume
One jump ahead of the hitmen
One hit ahead of the flock
I think I'll take a stroll around the block

Now we get to John and Karkat, who are just barely managing to evade being (re)captured, avoiding the police by sheer dumb luck. (The apathy of the general population also does them a lot of favours.)
Haha, this song is way too happy for where this fic is headed. But John and Karkat are both pretty eager to deny the unfavourable odds stacked against their success.

One jump ahead of the hoofbeats
One hop ahead of the hump
One trick ahead of disaster
They're quick, but I'm much faster
Here goes, better throw my hand in
Wish me happy landin'
All I gotta do is jump

The Final Countdown by Europe

We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?

The Furry Fruity Asshole Factory Rescue Team has their fair share of evading police to do. If they can successfully defy the law and save their friend, can they return to their former lives, and the future the four of them might have had together?
Meanwhile, it was only a matter of time before John and Karkat's luck ran out.
This song definitely has a 'hurtling toward inevitability' feel to it, which I think was suited to this chapter.

It's the final countdown
We're leaving together
The final countdown

Les Enfants Perdues by Angélique Kidjo
(The Lost Children)

Qui saura écouter l'appel
Des enfant perdus
Qui saura les approcher
Qui saura colorer le ciel
Des enfants perdus

(this is my amateur translation:)

(Who will listen to the cry
Of the lost children
Who will approach them
Who will colour the sky
Of the lost children)

The rescue team is anxious but still hopeful. Things are looking pretty bad on John and Karkat's side.
This song is very soulful and amazing. Angélique Kidjo sings in a way that will make you feel the emotion even if you can't understand the lyrics.

Qui saura aimer
Comme ils ont aimé
(Qui saura rêver comme ils ont rêvé)

(Who will love
As they have loved
[Who will dream as they have dreamed])

If We Hold On Together by Diana Ross

Don't lose your way
With each passing day
You've come so far
Don't throw it away

This song is so sweet and tender and is half the reason I wanted to make this soundtrack. A heartbreaking song for what people have told me is a heartbreaking chapter, when everything seems bleak, and John finds his and Karkat's fear to be greater than his hope.

Words are swaying
Someone is praying
Please let us come home to stay

You Were There from ICO

Am I forever dreaming
How to define the way I'm feeling

You were there
Countless visions they haunt me in my sleep
You were there
Though forgotten all promises we keep

I've got a lot of EMOTIONS associated with this song. Did we just manage a GOOD END? Only time will tell. For now, John is a bit too overwhelmed by the miracle of the Rescue Team pulling through.

Happiness follows sorrow
Only believing in tomorrow

fangirl moment, crazy fandom, derp derp derp, ms paint adventures
