Notes on San Francisco, in reverse order;

My very oldest CTY friend is still as flaky as she ever was, which has resulted in sitting in Alice's apartment waiting for a phone call. Hour one was a welcome rest. Hours two and three are really pissing me off. I mean, seriously this girl has been trying to get me to the bay area to visit her for like six months. There's a reason I'm not really friends with anyone like this anymore. Other plans in process of being evolved.

# of blisters: 6. More if you count blisters on blisters.
Number of times I have been asked if I was lost or needed directions by a random stranger: 2
Number of times I have been asked for directions: 2
Number of times I was able to successfully supply directions; 2

The second person I gave directions to was a dude in a fluffy green skirt, carrying a poi staff.

It's been good and strange to spend so much time wandering by myself. Lonely yet freeing. I climbed Bernal Heights and Buena Vista. I found a walking-meditation labyrinth that someone had made out of the crumbly red bedrock on Bernal Heights, failed to locate the store that sells the animal orgy mugs. I had pupusas on Mission St, which are even less available in PDX than good burritos. I looked at lots of plants at the botanical gardens and conservatory of flowers. I pondered my edgyness at the lack of dirt and greenery (but not of the smokable variety :p) I found a novel by one of my favorite poets that I didn't know existed, in one of my favorite Modernist formats. Its called _Palimpsest_ which is a title so nerdy that you have to be a very specific kind of nerd to have any idea how nerdy it is.

The human-dominated landscape really kind of weirds me out. Yes, I know we are discussing San Francisco here, I know it has plenty of geography. But the Mission is so beige-and-gray colored. All the pigeons are sick. What kind of place can't even support a healthy pigeon population? Also no mountains and not enough bodies of water. Um. Remind me not to move to NYC.
