Feel Free to Question Me

These are from esotaria.

1. What is your ultimate comfort read? (Can be a specific book, an author, or a genre)

Oh my goodness, I have so many comfort reads, haha! Young adult fantasy with a strong nostalgia factor for the most part. Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Susan Cooper's Seaward are two I've been coming back to for close to two decades, however. Patricia C. Wrede's Mairelon the Magician and Magician's Ward are like hot chocolate for my soul. Actually, just see here.

2. How did you get into Inuyasha?

Wow, it's been over a decade ago. (I am soooo old, SO OLD!) Umm, I know I found out about its general existence via link hopping from a Gundam Wing website. I read and loved Sailor Moon fic back in the day, but Gundam Wing was my real gateway into anime and fandom. Inuyasha really grabbed my attention because of the trappings of Beauty and the Beast/the Other bridegroom it had going for it. I really like those kinds of stories. It didn't hurt that Kagome was time-displaced and that's a fun trope too. I did lose a ton of my interest though when the near endless sword-level-ups began. I have been contemplating a reread though, particularly since I can zoom straight through now that it's done.

Inuyasha was the first manga I followed in translation/scanlation and the first anime I watched fansubbed. I was lurking around in the fandom for a short time before the anime existed, so getting it was pretty exciting. I remember how tedious it was to track down too: being frustrated with the slow dial up connection, figuring out FTP (which I probably couldn't do now), giving up on ICQ because my computer and I both hated it, getting a box of fansubs put onto VHS from heartensoul (those are probably still around here somewhere), transitioning over to torrents and realizing I'm just really greedy (I'm so glad for Megaupload and its ilk now, where I don't have to talk or share, LOL), and then being snotty about it being licensed and then dubbed and then aired on Cartoon Network. Ah, the good ole days.

3. Do you still write fanfic? (I feel like I should know this) If you don't, do you plan to someday?

Technically, I do. I just... haven't. Going to graduate school (particularly my program) while working fulltime was just not conducive to writing, or creativity in general. Add in the relationship/health drama of last year and any musing sparks were pretty well smothered even before I went into my internship. It was a combination of no time and general exhaustion, feeling guilt for indulging in activities that were low on the priority list, and not wanting to start doing something that I used to enjoy so much when I knew I would just have to give it back up again. I'm presently depriving myself of fun pursuits to study for my national certification exam on October 15. Maybe once that's over I'll finally feel like I'm done and be able to get back to the more time-intensive hobbies again.

I'd like to finish Dog's Body, but that would be aided greatly by re-reading Inuyasha. I've got a few Gundam Wing pieces and series that have long been laying around in various stages of planning and completion for years, at least one Hellsing oneshot, a Samurai Champoo lemon threesome that's probably 75% done (again, I need a refresher). In the last year, I started putting down a few lines for a Wallflower lemon as well as a series of Eyeshield 21 drabbles. Maybe you'll see something new by Christmas. We'll just have to see. :-)

4. What fictional character do you think most resembles you and why?

This is a hard one. I've had to think awhile! And I can't think of a single one where I went "That's me, that's absolutely me." But pieces of me? Oh, sure. I really resonated with Disney's incarnation of Rapunzel, having many interests and a thirst for knowledge in spite of the emotionally manipulative mother who'd like to keep me isolated and under control. My mom, while bad enough, is not as bad as Gothel though. I can see bits of myself in Morwen from Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles: surrounded by cats and never quite what people expect or think I should be. And then there's Lirael from the Abhorsen Trilogy. She feels different from those around her and not quite good enough, finds her solace in the library, and has the love of quite an amazing Disreputable Dog.

5. If you were an animal, what would you be?

I would be a Rhodesian Ridgeback or a cross thereof because they are the most perfect creatures under heaven! ♥♥ :-D

Really, I'd probably be a cat. My habits are very much like those of a cat.
