Spanish - I took three years in high school and one year in college, and I remember a few words and phrases, but I got nowhere near fluency or even real comfort. If I was to go out and start acquiring a second language right now, Spanish would probably be it because it is so widely used locally and so very marketable in my career field. Then I would go bebopping around Spain because I really want to see Barcelona. Architecture! So sexy! From there, we're going to South America! One day when I'm less rotund and better able to hike up mountains for days on end, I want to go to Machu Picchu.
Sign language - When I was in Chicago, riding the L, I saw this couple talking in sign language. They started out obviously arguing and then managed to resolve whatever their differences were and make up. It was the most beautiful, fluid, expressive thing I've ever seen.
Japanese - It is relevant to my interests….
German - It has all the best words to express complicated ideas.
Italian - I love Italian food. I should probably learn how to pronounce it better.
