1. Paper - I like to think that I am still, at heart, a writer. A blank sheet of paper is one of the most beautiful and romantic things in all the world to me. There is endless potential there, endless creativity just waiting to be unleashed. In a time in which "going green" is really probably the right thing to do, I've got to admit that my monitor just doesn't do it for me the way an empty notebook does.
2. Peaches - It's a fruit that feels nice when you snuggle it to your face. It smells pretty good and tastes pretty sweet too and also comes from a plant that makes pretty flowers (as it should, considering it's related to roses). All things considered, peaches may just be the most awesome fruit ever.
3. Penny - Yeah, she's my mom's cat, but that doesn't mean I can't love her too. She's probably one of the most visually striking cats I've ever seen and the biggest, neediest whiny baby in all the world.
4. Pens - This probably goes along with the paper and the whole writing thing to some degree, but I also love all the additional entertainment potential of pens. I love the feel of a pen in my hand. I love the way I can tap them, twirl them, click them, and use them to shoot rubber bands. I love atypically colored and/or scented pens most of all.
5. Perfume oils - As many of you know, one of my goals in life is to smell like a walking bakery. Perfume oils help immensely with that because they don't contain alcohol like quicker evaporating perfumes and colognes. This means that I can smell wonderful more subtly and for longer periods of time.
6. Persians - I never would have thought I'd like Persians and was even a bit disdainful about them before owning one, flat-faced and froufrou creatures that they are after all. Then came Lily who is gorgeous and goofy and sweet and temperamentally the most perfect creature under heaven--which is to say that she's absolutely adorable when she's pissed off and trying to bite me. Seriously. She's savage, but there is nothing cuter than a poofy kitty who's out for blood .
7. Petfinder.com - It's a website that helps homeless animals find homes. I'd love it on principal alone even if I hadn't used it in locating my Mason. Even though there's absolutely no room in the inn right now for further additions, I'll also admit to browsing the site occasionally just to look at the pictures and tug on my heartstrings a little.
8. Petite Princess Yucie - Okay, yes, it was probably targeted at a slightly different demographic than that into which I fall, but I loved it irrationally from the moment I saw the promo art. Yes, it's based on a Japanese life sim game called Princess Maker and was animated by Gainax, which is infamous for its "bounce." Yes, it's about a country girl trying to better her life by competing with other girls to win a magic tiara that grants a single wish. And, yes, the budding romance between the guy who propositions nuns and a 17-year-old girl trapped in the body of a 10-year-old should probably set off my squick meter. But! It's about female bonds and integrity and love of family and friends and personal sacrifice, and I bawled like a baby through the final two episodes.
9. Psychology - My undergraduate major and pretty much the driving force behind the masters from hell that I'm still pursuing in counseling. Emotions, behavior, cognition, it's all fascinating.
10. Puppies - IF YOU DO NOT LOVE PUPPIES, YOU LACK A SOUL. Roly poly, wobbly, goofy bundles of fun! Soft puppy fur, cold puppy noses, big puppy eyes, slobbery puppy tongues, sweet puppy breath, insanely wiggling puppy butt, and waggling puppy tail, oooooooooooh, I love them so!
