Anticipate Still More Pet Food Recalls

Jun 05, 2007 22:43

It's been quiet for too long...

We've got a new toxin in the mix now. Acetaminophen, aka tylenol. Liver failure, nasty thing. Acetaminophen's particularly deadly to the kitties.

The foods that tested positive haven't been announced yet. (And FDA doesn't have the power to force recalls for pet food; they have to be voluntary by the companies.) Rumor mill via Itchmo (which tends to be quite accurate) says its in at least some Hill/Science Diet varieties though.

Time to raise holy hell with the pet food companies again.

niamh_sama, insert the not-a-vet disclaimer here and I'm not sure how possible low-level, long-term poisoning might work because I don't think it's ever been studied, but it destroys red blood cells too. Might be something to talk to your vet about.
