When I was 12, I came up with a story idea of three friends reuniting after losing contact because their childhood friend died in an accident. After the funeral, they would discover that the dead friend always wanted the four of them to go on a rafting trip and decide that the three of them would go on this trip to honor his memories. Chaos would ensue.

When I turned 17, I would watch this very idea acted out in a movie (Without a Paddle).

When I was 14, I came up with a story idea about a post-nuclear holocaust world where various factions would struggle to fight over a power station with whatever weapons they could salvage. There was a crazy horde of soldiers led by a charismatic and fascist leader, a heroic group of people following democratic ideals, a tiny faction supported by swarms of robots, and a group of quasi-religious scientists trying to make the radiation-ridden barren world a better place to live.

In 2008 and 2011, I would be playing this very idea on my ps3 (Fallout 3/New Vegas).

I bet everyone had experiences like this - ideas are extremely easy to come up with. It's what you do with that idea that really, really matters.

Thank you for you wise words, inverarity! Can't wait for the Stars Above. :D
