Sounds like the kind of book that makes me want to say, "Bleh."

I'm still not sure I undestand the male obsession with breasts. I think it's a product of our modern uber-sexed society. Really, breasts are only intended for feeding infants--there's no implicit sexual connotation. I know in pre-modern African societies, that's certainly the viewpoint.

Uh, sorry, I just find the boob-centric nature of the women in this story really annoying.

The Grimdark Adventures of Batman and Robin as assassins in a medieval fantasy world.

Best. Summation. Ever.

I got through this book, and I really enjoyed it for the kind of ninjas-on-steroids fast action pace, and because I do enjoy some good old-fashioned teenage boy humor, like when Kylar* reflects that Durzo (tee hee) would never let him live down "that time he tried to hump the bridge".

At the same time, oy, the misogyny. Misogy-neeeeeee, misogy-youuuuuu... And let me tell you, it gets worse in Book 2, which I started gleefully, and then was seriously seriously creepified by only a few chapters in, began skimming, got seriously annoyed, and wound up adding Book 2 to the very rare club of Books I Have Actually Thrown Across the Room.

In a world where you can have really good fantasy, why settle for this?

*Dude, you can snort at "Durzo Blint" but "Kylar" just makes me think of parents being overly precious with a name for their offspring. Is he a special ninja? Is he a really, really super-special ninja? Is he? Fantastic.
