This was my second book by Thomas Pynchon & it turned me from a follower to an avid frothing-at-the-mouth bonafide zealot. ps hamsters need to workout, those wheels lead nowhere.
so i just started reading The Crying of Lot 49 recently for the first time, and when i logged onto LJ today, it finally occurred to me what your icon was. lol i always just imagined it was a stylized trumpet or something that you chose to use to "announce" your book reviews. that, combined with your username, and now i just feel foolish. but I had to share anyway, and look up your review here, which I've only skimmed as I'm not done with the book yet. but I will come back here and read it in full when I am. i'm glad to see you've reviewed it!
"Thomas Pynchon and Lewis Carroll were in many respects writing the same book: both are nearly perfect Campbellian stories."
fwiw, this was news to me and i found it very insightful. i can see the parallels between the two stories but was not familiar with Campbell, which opens a whole new world for me. thank you mentioning it here, even if it is seemingly widely covered elsewhere.

I probably missed the point. Maybe I'll pick it up again.
Also, do you recommend Mason&Dixon? I enjoy historical fiction (usually), but somehow I've never read this one.
