My morals and my value to the literary community

A couple of weeks ago, I posted Beware of Vanity Press Scams, in which I singled out the Strategic Publishing Group, affiliated with the hydra-headed AEG Publishing Group.

I received this response from an anonymouse:

Your research. You're comments are way off base and at best, amateur. There are numerous authors published by Strategic that are ( Read more... )

(P.S. It's "your comments," not "you're comments.")

You have seriously just made my day. XD

Amanda Thrasher's children's book, Magic in the Mushroom Patch, is not available from Borders. I did find it online at B&N, but they don't carry it in stores -- you have to order it. ($22 for a small children's book.) I'll give Ms. Thrasher credit for being good at self-promotion, but she hasn't been published by a real publisher yet.

Oh, you need to check in the Dallas, TX area. It's in the stores and available. It's not necessary to order it.

I have been published by Eloquent Books and the publishing exercise was pain free, cheap and I have absolutely no complaints. My book has been out there for 5 months and has been picked up by so many sites on Google, has a video, google alerts, and google 'search inside'. I have not been asked to pay any more than the original JV cost of $900 or so except $100 for a better presentation page. Yes, I am continualy asked to pay for other things to help me sell my book but I don't have to pay and I am certainly not pressured to. I have not been asked to buy any books at all but I did buy 15 at wholesale for my friends and family. Never have I been asked to buy anything retail ( ... )

I've never seen a sheep arguing quite so passionately in defense of its own fleecing before.

So, you've paid about a thousand dollars so far to get your book "published"? Let me know when you sell enough copies that you've broken even.
