This sounds fascinating, I can't wait to see how you proceed with this list. If I may offer suggestions, I read David McCullough's John Adams and Truman, and they were both wonderful. Also Kenneth Whyte's Hoover: An Extraordinary Life In Extraordinary Times. And yes, Chernow's Alexander Hamilton is also excellent.
