A YA fantasy that is charming despite being a predictable, derivative assembly of cliches and jejune worldbuilding.

Hello again,

Long time no readie/writie from me. Glad that you are still around.

About the book:

Looks like too much YA around. Pass.

I would like to know what you think about a bunch of YA books and what to do with them.

Question:

I've read somewhere, that the American book market is for women and adolescents. Cannot find the quote ATM. What's your opinion (strictly private), if you have any?

Shit, it sounds like I am from somewhere. Sorry, too lazy to change the post.

It depends on the books, I guess? I mean, some are good, some not.

I'll give you my opinion in public: women make up about 80% of the fiction market, according to some figures I've read. Romance has been the bestselling genre forever. And the YA genre has of course exploded in the last 10-20 years. So there is some truth to the statement, though there's definitely an adult male audience out there.

This is true, but then you have to read the book, or ask somebody you trust about a book
:)

However, there're still a lot of useless YA books that the young ones should be deprived of. :)

What would you recommend for a 50 from today, bookwise?

I don't know about "depriving" anyone. Some people like crappy books.

Are you asking for a YA recommendation for an older reader? I liked Catherynne Valente's fairyland books.
