I think the potential for sci-fi, or at least futurism, to be something of a time capsule for when it was written is part of what can make it fascinating and give each generation or wave of sci-fi its own unique vibe. There's a reason that steampunk is so popular, and that 50's sci-fi novels are still read today. It's the whole "what did people think at that time?".
