I read this a few years back and was a bit surprised at how accessible the book was, considering what a weighty tome it was. Granted, I do prefer the more romantic, Hollywood-esque ending, even if it doesn't make as much sense character wise. I guess I'm just a sap.

This is one of my favorite books and probably the "Classic" that I enjoyed reading the most. Glad to see that you read and reviewed it! It's far from perfect, and you point out why, but in the end it's an enjoyable enough read. I think some of my love for the books stems from the fact that I read it when I was around 13 or 14 and I've got a nostalgia bug for it.

I had heard of the "Space Vampire" (lol) adaption but hadn't seen it. I might check it out now, given that you say it's a somewhat faithful adaption and I like anime well enough anyway.

Cheers

Gankutsuou is my favourite anime of all time. I watched it first which then got me reading the original book. I too was astounded at how well the anime series managed to interpret this absolutely fantastic and sublime novel. (I also found it intriguing how in the anime there is a very homoerotic relationship between Albert and the count...I must say i was a little disappointed that didnt happen in the novel, lmao)

Heard this a few days ago, about Dumas father, whose life in some ways mirrors the Count.
