Yeah, some people eat their placenta after they give birth. They think it helps the new mom recover faster and be less prone to post-partum depression. If you google it, there's a blog entry out there about a guy who made lasagna or something out of his wife's placenta for all of their vegan friends. Apparently human placenta can be vegan even though it's meat as long as it's willingly given. (A college roomate was training to be a doula and she was always sharing "interesting" information about birth)

So this is real life...

that's some weird concept of vegan i must say. to me, if it comes from something that was alive in the fauna type way, it ain't vegan. also, you couldn't pay me enough to eat placenta lasagna, willingly given or no 0_____o

I read that book on a plane several years ago. It was extremely entertaining - although not terribly reassuring when it got the part about planes.
