Quinn hated lying awake at night. In the crowded halls of McKinley High, it was so loud and chaotic that she couldn’t even hear herself think. Often, that was a good thing. She couldn’t hear her conscience wincing as some inferior being got an ice cold surprise first thing in the morning, and she couldn’t hear her heart wishing things were otherwise. But at night, everything came rushing back.
“Watch where you’re going, freak.”
Quinn loved her life. The adoration of the masses, the love of her boyfriend, the fear in the eyes of the freshmen, it all made her feel absolutely dizzy with power. Knowing that no-one could ever hurt you, that was the ultimate high. And if a couple wide-eyed, naive, overachievers had to be reminded of their place so that she could sit comfortably at the top of the Social Ladder, well, there were worse compromises.
“God, what is she wearing? I wouldn’t touch that sweater for all the money and love in the world.”
She knew that God didn’t hate her for taking her place in the world. If he did, she wouldn’t have succeeded. So far, everything Quinn Fabray wanted, Quinn Fabray got, in spite of the carelessness with which she treated her fellow students.
“RuPaul, are you physically incapable of being anything but pathetic?”
She didn’t want God to hate her. In many ways, Quinn only felt safe when she prayed, because then she knew that she was loved, and she knew that nothing would go wrong because God was on her side. This knowledge gave her the strength to be unstoppable. She was a force to be reckoned with because she knew everything would work out for her. It was God’s will.
“Eavesdrop much?”
She knew that other girls won their popularity with their bodies. Before she collected Santana, the Cheerio was sleeping with every football player she could sink her claws into, desperately trying to get just one step closer to the top of the Social Ladder. But Quinn would never do that. She was too afraid of what could happen if she didn’t stick true to her faith. Lust was a sin.
“Treasure Trail.”
But lusting after another woman was an even greater sin. So, Quinn took the lesser of two evils; no matter what she might feel, no matter what she might dream, it wasn’t quite as evil if she could explain it away. If she could justify the thoughts. Besides, she would never act on her stupid impulses, so she wasn’t impure. And no matter how many times she imagined it, being touched, being caressed, being held, she could keep God’s support, because she may be a sinner but she wasn’t unnatural. She wasn’t dreaming about another girl, she was just dreaming about...
“Man hands.”
But it was a lot harder to lie to herself, alone in the dark, in the quiet.
"Rachel."
AN: First femmeslash, second glee fic, this is certainly a day of milestones! I feel like I got Quinn's voice a little wrong, but we don't know a lot about pre-Glee Quinn, so I'm taking artistic license. Leave a comment if you have any... you know... comments.
