Valuable use of my time.

I don't post here, but I keep up with people's journals and communities and such. Lizz posted this in her journal so I made her give me words to do for myself. It's fun. If you want to do it too I can give you words.

THE FIVE WORDS MEME
Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!"
I will give you five words that remind me of you
Post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you

My Words From Lizz:

CAKE:
Where to start with cake? In the simplest of terms, I love cake. There are few things in the world that can make me as happy, and even fewer still that could make me happier, than cake. Truly good cake is sublime in its construction. So simple, but so much joy! Moist and spongey with the perfect amount of frosting is all you need. For cake to be truly good, you don't need any fruit, any filling, any sprinkles. You need nothing more than cake and frosting. But, if you take this good cake and add those extras, well, you've got something truly spectacular. Also, the band "Cake" is pretty wonderful if you ask me.

Malkin:
Evgeni Malkin. My little Russian man-boy. I fell in love with him during his very first season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's tall and lanky and Russian and just adorable. He reminds me of a puppy who needs to grow into himself. I fell more in love with him over this past hockey season because it was his first time doing press conferences without an interpreter. His English is rough, but you can tell he's trying hard. After all, he came here only knowing "mother" "father" "brother" and "thank you" which I find just precious. All that aside, he's a phenomenal hockey player. He's powerful but also is a team player. He can make the plays that win games, but also does not hog the limelight like ALEXANDER OVECHKIN!! THAT ASSHAT!!

Pittsburgh:
Ahh, good old PGH. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and it just feels like home despite the fact I've been here in the Chicagoland area for roughly the same amount of time. Despite leaving I still love the Steelers and the Penguins. I will bleed black and gold for life. There's a gas station/convenience store combo called Sheetz that has spoiled me to all gas station/convenience stores ever. I hate ham, but Isaly's Chipped Ham is seriously some of the best lunchmeat in the world. I know what "dahn" "aht" "'em" "tahn" "'at" "hicky" "doo-hicky" "gumband" and "warshcloth" mean thanks to Pittsburgh. I will always like KDKA news the best. It isn't the prettiest area of the country. Nor full of the most high class people. But it's the closest thing to feel like home to me and I love it there.

Russia:
I've always been interested in Russia since I found out my grandpa basically sneaked into the country from there with his dad around WWII. I was always interested in the "enemy" when studying history (Russia, Germany, Japan) because it always seemed like we only ever learned what they did wrong to us, but nothing of their own history. The more I studied Russian history the more I loved it. I had an opportunity to study for 2 weeks in Russia in 2006 and I can't think of a happier 2 weeks in my adult life to date. I absolutely fell in love. From the hammer and sickle emblem on just about everything, to the ice cream street vendors, to the onion domes and the church babushki. It was amazing. I miss it every single day. I would honestly give just about anything to go back for any length of time. Plus, who can say that they were able to listen to Pink Floyd play in Red Square across from Lenin's tomb in a wonderful absinthe haze? Not many, that's for sure.

History:
Ever since I was little history has always been my favorite subject. I had an uncanny knack for remembering names, dates and important facts. I've always been fascinated with what happened before me. It's so interesting and humbling to know that so much has happened before you and so much will happen after you. And without knowing where we've been, as a country, as groups of people, how do you even make sense of where you are or where you're going to go? Also, history is always changing as we find new sources, new evidence and new artifacts. A major journal discovery or ancient tool tomorrow could throw off everything we've known about X culture or the history of Y country. That is 12 kinds of awesome in my humble opinion. If I could spend the rest of my life researching the historical I would be happy. Ultimately blind, but very very happy.
