Character's name: Inuzuka Hana
PB: Sugimoto Yumi
Age: 28
Birthday: April 13
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 136 lbs
Blood type: O [Agreeable, sociable, optimistic]
Zodiac: Aries [Confident, head-strong, action oriented]
Born in: Konoha
Hometown: Konoha
Current Residence: Konoha
Employment: Internist and trainer at Inuzuka Medical Clinic, paramedic/EMT working part-time

Personality: Like all Inuzuka, Hana has a fiercely loyal nature. Her family has always been a top priority, followed by the friends who have wormed their way into her heart. Nothing is as important to her as keeping promises and watching over loved ones. Unlike most Inuzuka, however, she’s also a very thoughtful person. She doesn’t fly off the handle like her mother or get into fights like her brother. Instead, she tends to be the person in a tense situation who sits back and mediates, listening to all sides and rationalizing her way through most arguments. The fight is there, but it isn’t prominent; in fact, most people who only know her in passing would never expect that she came from the boisterous family she did. She is comparatively laid-back, gentler in her assessments of people and quicker to forgive.

In so many words, there are lots of things that make her an ideal police officer and paramedic: compassion, drive, level-headed calm under pressure and the sort of loyalty that team leaders know can’t be forced out of people who don’t care with their entire soul.

This quiet calm, however, comes with its own breed of insecurities and maladjustments. Hana isn’t quick to anger, but the things that set her off-things like child and animal abuse, chauvinists and those who put their families into unnecessary danger-really set her off. Her wrath has all the fire of the rest of her family, but is much less rarely seen. Although she couldn’t explain it herself, it comes from the same darkness that prevents her from trusting people most of the time.

Trust is amazingly important to Hana, but also very hard to come by. However much she remembers of the one incident of abuse against herself in the past, she has vivid impressions of growing up in a somewhat broken home. She would rather talk than argue, comply than fight, and cannot abide the idea of someone she hasn’t known for years touching her neck or wrists. The world isn’t full of the sweet, kindly people she secretly hoped it would be; she’s seen that for years, at home and in her line of work as an officer of the law. Because of her quiet fears, Hana doesn’t have more than a handful of people she truly calls friends, although most people who know her think she’s a sweet, good kid.

Likes: Dogs, meatballs, family, helping people, quiet time to read, people dogs like instinctively, playing in parks, forests

Dislikes: Substance abuse, men who hit women, being alone too long, losing touch with family and friends

Trivia: + Hana's name is not 'flower' as one would assume; it's 'nose.'
+ In a vaguely familiar pattern, Hana named calls her three dogs (the 'Haimaru Sankyodai') Haiiro, Sekitan and Bikou after three different types of grey.
+ + Her secret favourite, Bikou, also has the same sort of 'play on words' naming pattern of Hana herself--Bikou means 'shadow' as in 'to follow behind' as well as 'the muzzle of a dog,' not 'shadow' like 'darkness.'
+ The most deviant thing Hana has ever done is the tattoo on her right shoulder. It's a red symbol meant to represent a flower.
+ Hana is a virgin. :|
+ Although she talks a big game, Hana would very much like to someday fall in love with a man who will treat her right.

Background: There are a lot of things people don’t remember from their childhoods-things that happened before they were forming conscious memories, things that felt unimportant, things that were not fully understood at the time and therefore lost. For people like Inuzuka Hana, there are also the things which are not remembered because it’s less painful to push them away.

Most of her childhood she remembers with fondness. The afternoons with her mother, the near constant presence of dogs half her size in their home and her mother’s place of work, and the birth of her younger brother are described without fail to those who ask her about her younger years. What she doesn’t like to remember is the nights her father remembered to come home. They were the nights when the house smelled wrong, more like marijuana and blood. It didn’t take very long for her to put everything into place, even at a young age. Even the most fiercely protective mother (and there is no question that Inuzuka Tsume was among the fiercest) could not have stopped the sounds of violence from drifting through the walls on bad nights when she’d never quite manage to fall asleep.

It got worse after her little brother was born. Hana was seven when everything changed. The night her father crossed the line was the night his backhand came down on her instead of her mother. She rarely remembers more than the anger on his face, the ringing in her ears that followed the numbness in her cheek, the weight of her baby brother curled against her in the closet while the dogs howled and their parents shrieked incoherently. The next morning, nerves jangled and arms still locked tight around her little brother, she vaguely remembers her mother pulling them out of the place they’d been hidden and throwing them into a car. Hana never saw her father again.

Then the good memories took over again. With her mother’s encouragement, Hana excelled through high school and was offered admission to a moderately prestigious university. Unlike most of her peers, however, she decided not to continue into the realm of higher education, instead picking up jobs both helping at her mother’s veterinary clinic and taking shifts at nearby childcare centers and high school prep programs. She continued to spend time at home, looking after her brother and helping keep her mother’s household afloat with the extra cash. When she was 21, however, she was given a very gentle shove out the door, although she was also allowed to keep her set of keys. Still working two jobs (and still seeing her mother every day), she found a place not too far from home and enrolled in paramedic school. Upon completion, Hana continued to work primarily for her mother’s clinic, but switched her secondary career away from children at risk to children in dire need, signing on immediately with an ambulance evening shift.

It wasn’t long before her mother encouraged her to become involved with the clinic’s K9 unit training program, coincidentally around the time her brother was joining up with the local police force. It was an energizing change for Hana, working with healthy dogs part of the day rather than always sick and injured creatures. On the darker side, it also meant that she began treating more seriously wounded animals when K9 unit dogs would come in for treatment. Early in her career came one particularly nasty encounter with a small cluster of underground weapons dealers. The incident blindsided three of the local unit’s tracking dogs. Hana’s apartment was small and cramped; she nevertheless found herself taking care of all three dogs once they were decommissioned. Although one had lost the use of his left eye, one walked with a permanent gimp and one was now startled by its own shadow, Hana loved her new pack with a fiery devotion and successfully maneuvered into her newly crowded life.

Since her brother’s joined the force, Hana has spent progressively more time working for the ambulance, looking for the perfect combination of the career she loves and the family she defines herself by… and to be ready if Kiba’s unit ever makes the call of officer down.

Relations:

Family
- Inuzuka Tsume - Hana's mother, Tsume is probably one of her favourite people in the entire world. She's been a rock for Hana the girl's entire life, the person she has most loved throughout the years with fierce unconditional devotion. Hana still works at her mother's clinic almost full-time.
- Inuzuka Kiba - red_fang_inu - Hana's younger brother by 6 years, Kiba is the only man she trusts fully. They have a fairly healthy relationship, based largely on her possessive desire to take care of her little brother while he attempts to live his own life. Hana has done her best to keep in touch with her brother over the years.
- Haimaru Sankyodai - The three Akita Inu 'brothers' Hana adopted from the police department after they were retired. Haiiro is blind in his left eye. Sekitan,'s left back leg has never fully recovered from shrapnel, making it hard for him to move much faster than a walking pace. Bikou never quite recovered from the shock and trauma of the raid in which all three were injured, and has been spooked easily ever since. They are the light of Hana's life.
- Father - ...nope.

Work Related
- Kimura Rin - remnants_of_rin - The two women are vague work acquaintances. Hana knew Dr Yamada before he passed away, and feels mildly guilty for not knowing his daughter better.
- Uzumaki Naruto - cantdrivethevan - Naruto and Hana both work ambulance shifts, sometimes with vaguely coinciding schedules. This gives Naruto ample opportunity to flirt with her, and her ample opportunity to spurn his way-too-young-for-her advances. She has lots of love for him, and appreciates that he both makes her feel young and understands what it's like to work in emergency medicine (because damn, it's a hard pill to swallow sometimes).

Other Acquaintances
- Haku - crystal_mirrors - She met Haku in the park while walking Bikou, who actually seemed to like him. This and the fact that he's excited to make play dates with her dogs gives him automatic good marks. She hopes someday to paint his nails. :|
- Kirabi - hachibisama - She met him at the bar where he works when he served her a Jack and Coke after a hard day. He was very charming to her and she has some vague intention of going to visit him again. Running into him at a restaurant and getting to know him over dinner has only reaffirmed this desire to become proper friends with him.
- Tenten - bladed_dragon - Kiba and Tenten were childhood friends, and from time to time Hana took care of the young girl when her father was busy. Tenten drifted away from the family about seven years ago, but a late night reunion has brought the younger woman back into Hana's life and stirred up all sorts of familiar familiar impulses. Hana has no intention of letting the girl slip away again... and no idea what her newly reunited friend does for a living.
- Touji Mizuki - silver_shuriken - She met Mizuki at a pet store, where he valiantly rescued her from a large bag of kibble and her hectic day. Although she knows very little about him, Hana has a stupidly good feeling about him. He is currently one of the only people outside of family and work contacts to be given her partial contact information.
