CHAPTER THREE: IT’S SHOWTIME!

Eve finished up her meetings with Preston, the designated photographer for this piece and stopped by to grab a chicken salad. She hadn't eaten since dinner the previous day and it was now going on 5:00 pm. She sat in the car and ate while listening to yet another CD interview disc involving TVXQ.

She had listened to countless CD’s, watched numerous videos involving interviews, television appearances, and concert footage, and now she was running through the various interview discs that had been brought to her. She had lived, slept, and eaten TVXQ for over a month now and still she felt something personal, something different was missing in the mounds of discs and DVD’s that she had gone through.

She wanted to present the adult side of them, not the teenybopper bits. They were young men- not teenagers, and Lee Soo Man had made it clear to her management team and editors that he wanted an updated, upbeat image for them here.

Finishing her quick meal, she glanced at her watch and sighed. She had just enough time to get to her apartment, change clothes and drop by to pick up her friend Maggie. Eve's younger sister was meeting them at the Marta train station where the other three members of their invited group would be as well, ready for the concert and the best seats in the house.

Making it home, she dropped clothing piece by piece as she walked back to her room. She had no time to shower, so she washed her face, pulled her hair from its french twist, letting it fall to her shoulders, and shimmied into a pair of skinny jeans and an ivory cap sleeved top. Slipping her feet into favorite white flat sandals, she grabbed her purse and keys and headed out the door.

By the time they made the Marta train en route to the Phillips Arena, all were talking at once asking general questions about TVXQ. Eve's sister, Annie was seventeen years old and a huge fan of TVXQ, her favorite being Changmin, whom she talked about non-stop on the twenty minute ride to the arena. She impulsively hugged Eve when they stepped of the train, thanking her for making her dreams come true.

"Aw, no problem Annie. Just have a good time." She smiled. She adored her younger sister and missed her terribly since moving away. Still, they found time at least every other weekend to shop or go to concerts or movies. Maggie grabbed her arm as they walked inside the arena, holding her back.

"Listen, are we going back stage?" She asked, biting her lip.

"I don't know, probably not, just depends. But we are invited to the after party and you'll just love them, trust me. They're all very handsome and very easy to speak with too, and knowing your Asian fetish, you'll die over them." She laughed now.

"Ok well, then who is your personal favorite? And no beating around the bush, don't give me that “it's my job not to pick a favorite.” Spill it girl!" Maggie laughed.

"I don't know. Hmm, if I had to pick at the moment- this is very hard but I'd say... Yunho. Yeah, it would be Yunho. But honestly, they're all pretty wonderful, you just wait!" She grinned.

Well, all except one, but she wasn't going to spoil her evening worrying about Yoochun and she wasn't going to prejudice her friends against him. More than likely, whatever was wrong between she and Yoochun was something personality related. It just happened but it wasn’t such a big deal. She wasn't naive enough to believe it was all his fault but still, she disliked him and wanted to put his interview off until last so that she could find out more about him from the other guys, something that would make her interview time with him a bit easier on them both.

Eve went to the ticket booth and showed her press pass, picking up five other passes and handing them out. The rest of the group was made up of three of her little sister's friends, two girls and a guy. Winding their way through the arena, they made it to the stage and Eve found security, who showed her the backstage entrance and indicated their seats. The security guard noticed her name badge and handed her a note, which she opened at once, all eyes on her.

It was from Yunho:

Eve.

Ask Security to bring you backstage as soon as you arrive, we'd like for you to hang out back here until showtime and bring your friends too.

Waiting for you.

Yunho

"Uh guys, want to go meet the band?" She asked and was met with smiles and nods and one more hug from her sister. "Then let's go!"

Eve grinned and showing the note to Security, was led back down a maze of hallways until they were standing outside the dressing room door. Annie was fairly shivering with anticipation along with her group of friends, the girls all holding hands and quietly squealing amongst themselves. Maggie looked at Eve and shrugged her shoulders as if telling her to go on in. Eve knocked and the door swung open and as a surprised Maggie watched, a tall, dark haired guy picked Eve up and swung her into the room.

"That's Hero Jaejoong." She heard Annie whisper nervously and after he had deposited Eve back to her feet and gave her a sound kiss, he went back to the door with her and introduced himself, asking them to come in.

All the guys were dressed in their first stage costumes and Eve looked them over. First outfit was in black leather pants with white button up shirts and black leather vests. Very nice, very nice, she thought as she looked around at them. Her eyes had wandered the group swiftly and she sucked in her breath at once when she realized that a pair of deep brown eyes were looking into her own.

Yoochun.

He was standing to the side of the group with a bottle of Evian in his hand, taking a sip, his eyes never once leaving hers as he tipped the bottle back and took another sip. She drug her eyes from him as Yunho walked over and Maggie elbowed her in the ribs.

"Eve, you’re here. You look beautiful tonight, I mean, your hair..." He smiled and reached up to touch it with a finger. She was touched by his direct compliments and she smiled up at him.

"Thanks. You don't clean up too bad yourself!" She said.

"Yeah, leather. You like it?" He laughed. She turned to introduce him to the other members of their little group and then Changmin walked over and she felt Annie clutch the back of her sweater, holding on for dear life.

"Eve, hi! I’m glad you could come back stage and don't forget tonight the party!" He grinned. He looked inquiringly back at the rest of the group and she introduced him. Junsu had walked over by now and he heard the introductions and greeted each one warmly, shaking hands with them all.

"Oh, he's a doll!" Maggie said under her breath and smiled at him.

"He's taken, sorry. Long standing girlfriend but he is a doll!" Eve whispered back.

"Hey, that's only four. Jaejoong, who practically drug you into the room; Yunho the manly charming leader; Changmin, the cutie that Annie has staked out, and Junsu, who you break my heart with by telling me he's taken. Where is-?" Maggie asked.

"Yoochun." Eve finished the sentence just as he walked up.

"Hi, how are you?" Yoochun asked, his eyes taking in her hair, her clothes, her attitude. What the hell was she? Who was she, a buttoned up tight little professional or a casual to the teeth beauty who could laugh and joke? She was causing him major confusion and he really didn't even want to care.

"Fine and you?" She asked politely.

"The same, ready for tonight. Who are your friends?"

"Oh, ok. This is my best friend, Maggie. We grew up together- this is my little sister, Annie and her friends Terri, Erin, and Jason." She stood back indicating them.

"Little sister, huh?" He smiled and she nodded, he was turning on the charm as they spoke. He moved forward to speak to Annie and her friends as Maggie took her arm and drug her away from the group.

"Are you crazy?" She hissed into Eve's ear.

"What?" She asked, confused.

"He's so hot. My God, I didn't even notice him when we came in. Where was he?" She asked, grinning.

"Back in the corner. And why do you call me crazy?"

"Eve, listen. He- I mean, the vibes between you two, what is it? You could cut it with a knife, it's so thick. I just can't pick up on what the vibe is." She said insistant that Eve understood her.

"No vibes, trust me. I think maybe it's just your vibe with him. Check it out, you never know!" Eve smiled and turned her toward Yoochun's direction.

"Are you sure? I mean, I don't want to tread. Well..."

"Sure? Are you the crazy one now? Trust me, I've never been surer. Go on talk to him." Eve pushed her forward a bit.

Eve sat down on one of the sofas in the dressing area and leaned her head back on the back of it. It had been a long day, one of the longest, and the excitement and anger coupled with eating nothing until well past dinner time and then the rush to get to arena had left her exhausted. She felt large warm hands on her shoulders and opening her eyes to look up, she found brown ones smiling back at her.

"Tired?" Yunho asked and she nodded and scooted up a bit. He stayed behind her, his hands inching up her neck and gently moving the weight of her hair in order to begin a slow and steady massage, releasing the tension that had began there.

"Oh Yunho, that feels wonderful and I feel a bit guilty but don't stop until you must!" She laughed and hung her head.

"Don't feel guilty; I can see how tense you are. And believe it or not, I also get tense before shows. But today, I'm actually very relaxed right now and looking forward to it so you just enjoy it." He said softly.

She said nothing but lifted her head and was met by a look from Yoochun across the room. She blinked and looked away for the look in his eyes left her with a strange feeling; what, she didn't know but something nonetheless. When she chanced a second look at him, he was talking to Maggie and laughing. Relieved, she closed her eyes and let Yunho work his magic with his fingers. She was so relaxed by the time it was time for them to go and find their seats that she felt like a totally different person. She turned to give Yunho a hug and was pulled tightly against him.

"One for you." He said softly and she looked at him, questioning. He kissed his thumb and held it toward her, winking. She laughed and turned to gather the rest of her group, running straight into Yoochun.

"Oh, sorry!" She said before realizing it was him.

"Not a problem. Hey, did you enjoy yourself with Yunho over there?" He murmured as he walked by. She turned to watch him walk past, not sure what to say, deciding on nothing and as he got to Yunho, he turned and gave her the smirk she had come to detest so well. Shrugging her shoulders, she grabbed Maggie and the others and they made their way out to the side of the stage.

***

The concert was phenomenal, the arena was filled to capacity and the guys were full on, non-stop all the way through.

It must have been her lucky night, she though sarcastically, for Yoochun was on their side of the stage most of the evening and he caught her eye more than once, usually when doing a sexy dance move or singing one of their soulful ballads. During one particular love song, Yunho had come to their side and, without making it blatantly obvious, he had kissed his thumb once more and held it toward her, giving her one of his winks.

She felt herself blush from head to toe and mentally shook herself. It was better not to get too involved, not in her line of work. But he was gorgeous.
