20. Gun Machine by Warren Ellis
This month's book club selection.
I was wary - I'm not a fan of Warren Ellis. Back in the day I'd buy every Vertigo title going except, it seems, for the ones he was involved with.
It was OK. It's pretty much the standard crime novel fare that I read on the bus all the time. It has some nice turns of phrase, though. It's all about maps and location and psychogeography which should be right up my street, but the treatment of said themes was pretty insubstantial. The solution depends on a coincidence that's bordering on unacceptable even by crime novel standards.
