Fantasycon

Sep 24, 2006 20:30

Well, that was an excellent weekend. Never having been to a con before, I wasn't sure what to expect, and was afraid there may have been a lot of sitting (or worse, standing) around waiting for the sessions with Neil Gaiman and Clive Barker. That was not the case.

Really long. ( It's )

ramsey campbell, clive barker, raymond feist, neil gaiman, horror, fantasycon

I've never read any Ramsey Campbell stuff. The name is familiar though - is there some Lovecraft connection?

He's certainly very influenced by Lovecraft, and I think he's been around long enough to have had stuff published in some of the Cthulu Mythos collections.

All his stuff seems to be VERY expensive. They did have one compilation on amazon that seemed quite reasonably priced.

I quite the idea behind Lovecraft's stuff, but IMHO he's not the best writer in the world. In Ramsey can do Lovecraft influenced material, but better written then it sounds good to me.

There was lots of reasonably priced stuff at the con; I got the volume that's a collection of short stories he chose himself as a best of, and they date from 1961 to the present.

IMHO, I've found Ramsey Campbell to be more M R James than H P Lovecraft.
