So today I woke up at the crack of dawn and got myself up to DC for the annual Aids Walk. Every year GMU pushes this real hard because we want to beat Georgetown in amount raised.
Anyway, it was a 5K walk around DC, but not too hard. The weather was great and we got to go by the Capitol building and a few other monuments.
They had their annual Equality March on DC today too, but I didn't know until AFTER I got back to GMU after the Aids Walk. :( Why does no one ever TELL me these things?
Anyway, some pics:
(I was up front, there were a lot more people here than it looks like.)
(This was when I was still walking with the GMU team before I had to slow down b/c one of my friends has a cane and can't walk very fast.)
(For those sightseeing in DC, that's the old post office. It's got the 2nd tallest tower in DC. And a really great food court, too. It's worth a visit.)
(And this is where our congress argues about and passes laws about the price of cokes in the capitol building vending machines. No, really, that was on their agenda once.)
(And here is our national giant boner standing proud and tall for George Washington.)
Anyway, though it wasn't much, at least GMU beat Georgetown this year! We raised over ten thousand dollars! (Okay, we beat em by like, $200, but STILL!) Plus it was an uplifting experiance to see thousands of people walking across the mall for a good cause. Though it was slightly political, I was very glad to see that there were no protesters or any arguments against what we were supporting. Everyone was just there, happy to walk and support the cause.
So that's why I want to encourage every one to do something for a good cause in their lifetime. It's fun, enjoyable, and makes you feel good inside.
