another "i'm at work in the city" entry.
it's different because it's friday, and i usually work weekends only, and the whole day was very busy and kind of intense. i was translating for a workers comp attorney, and there was a client... oh god, my heart almost stopped when i saw the scar on his forearm. apparently an electric saw fell on it. the whole time i was imagining coming to a foreign country with the sole purpose of making life better for my family, and going to work for some fucking scum and one day having to cut some wood and having a power tool slice through the skin and muscle and veins of my arm and down into the bone. and then being ignored and avoided by the person who caused it to happen.
i can't believe that such horrible people exist in the world.
also, my coworker just told me the story behind her daughter's hand, which i never even noticed in the three years or so that my coworker has been working here. she has three fingers missing on her hand. my coworker is from nicaragua, and basically when her daughter was eight months old, the car they were in was being shot at (for political reasons - consider latin america in the 80s) and the baby was hit. oh my GOD. i can't even come close to imagining what that's like.
the amount of unnecessary suffering in the world is unreal. thinking about it makes me want to forget about school and all the other pointless bullshit of my life and just leave to some place that needs an extra pair of hands.
