The bar was smoky, the drinks tinged with bitterness and the fire of the alcohol that made them what they were. Yanagi Renji shook his head and threw back his current drink in one gulp. He sat back, looking at everyone in this depressing place. Renji thought he was just like them - alone, except for the drinks and the bartenders that kept the firewater flowing.
It was a rarity to see two people enter together, and it was even more rare for Renji to recognize those two people as people he had gone to high school with. The more slight man went and ordered their choice of booze, and the more built one searched for a place to sit. That was solved when Renji waved at them to join him.
"You're still together." Renji stated, a bit disappointed that they could stay together and be happy while Renji remained constantly alone.
"Another one lost?" Yukimura asked, sipping at the cold beer, yanking the almost burnt out cigarette from Renji's mouth and blunted it out in the ashtray. "Really, Renji. Perhaps you'd be luckier if you'd stop smoking, drinking, and cleaned yourself up a bit. You're really not that attractive anymore...no offense."
Sanada nodded once in agreement. "I don't understand why you keep dating. Especially when they all seem to dump you a few weeks later."
Renji shook his head. "It seems like everyone I know has either gotten married, or in your case are in a completely committed relationship like you two. Why shouldn't I want that for myself?" He asked. "And no offense taken, Seiichi. I know I'm a complete mess." He offered.
Yukimura patted him on the shoulder. "Renji, the offer is still open." He said softly.
Renji shook his head. "That ship sailed a long time ago, Seiichi." Renji replied, ordering another drink.
Sanada frowned a little. He knew what his lover was offering, and while he wasn't offended by it, something made him wonder if Renji was. "You should consider it, Renji."
Renji shook his head. "The balance would be off." He declared. "And I don't think it would ever be equal."
Yukimura gave a look at his current lover, smiled, and slid closer to Renji. When he was obnoxiously close to being in Renji's lap, Yukimura gazed into Renji's eyes. "We'd make it one." He breathed into Renji's face, close enough that Renji could smell the beer on the other man's breath.
Renji looked over at Sanada who was making no moves to remove his boyfriend from Renji's person. It was something he had learned to tolerate over the years. Renji pushed Yukimura away. "Not today, not ever." He said, sliding out of his seat, and leaving the money to cover his tab.
