The city would acquire a site for a new firehouse on the Near West Side, clearing the way for the closing of Chicago's oldest house under a plan to be introduced Wednesday by Mayor Richard Daley.

The old station, at 1123 W. Roosevelt Road, was built in 1873, two years after the Great Chicago Fire, officials said Tuesday.
