Its been such a long time since I've come up with anything half decent since HBP but here we go....

"She picked up the book and then walked back past him into the tent, but as she did so, she brushed the top of his head lightly with her hand. He closed his eyes at her touch..." DH Pg 295 Ch 18

Harry shot out his hand and grabbed her wrist, stopping her on the spot.

"Wait..."

He loosened his grip on her so she can turn around and sit next to him, but she did none of those things and walked through the flaps of the tent. Harry's hand fell limp to his side and he starred out into the snowflakes that had begun to fall. He should have expected Hermione to react like this at some point...a person can only handle being marched into their death so many times by someone before they finally decide to not walk with them anymore. Harry shivered as he pulled his jacket tighter against him, when suddenly Hermione reappeared out of the tent carrying a blanket with her. Tossing one half around his shoulders she sat down next to him and huddled underneath the blanket together. Harry felt something swell somewhere inside his chest and could feel the warmth of Hermione's body next to his and wanted nothing more than to drown himself in it completely. As she rested her head on his shoulder he could smell something vaguely familiar from the burrow.

He thought of Ginny.

It had been hours since he last checked the Map to watch her dot .

Shifting in her spot, Hermione gave a small shiver and Harry wrapped his arm around her waist pulling her tighter to him. The snow flakes continued to fall only thicker , forming a small blanket of snow around them.  Harry felt like thery were the only two people left in this world. Everyone else seemed so far away, out of reach, out of contact. Except for Hermione, who was right there next to him.

"Thank you...for staying, that is."

"I told you Harry...I'm in this with you," she said hugging him tighter.  When she lifted her head to kiss him on the cheek Harry had turned his head towards her in that precise moment and they brushed eachothers lips. Hermione pulled away instantly, but their eyes remained locked, pulling eachother's faces closer...two people who had never done so much, gone so far- we're kissing full on the lips.

They were alone.

The sharp inhales from Hermione alerted Harry to the fact that she was holding him tighter and had flattened herself against him. Harry shrugged the blanket off his shoulders and brought his hand to her face, to sense, to feel that there was someone there, right here with him- he was not alone. The coldness of Harry's hands against Hermione flushed face caused her to stop and snap out of the embrace. The look on her face seemed to match what Harry was thinking...

They had gone to far.

"Oh God...Hermione...I-I'm so sorry- I shouldn't have done-"

Hermione stood up suddenly, the blanket falling completely to the ground and started to back away from him. "No," she said avoiding his eyes, "I shouldn't have...I should have stopped myself...excuse me."

Harry stood up and tried to stop her from walking away from him but Hermione had already disappeared through the tent flaps once more. Collapsing, on the the rock Harry swore into this hands and covered his face. He could see Ginny's face and felt a stabbing pain of guilt. She was probably in Hogwarts somewhere, maybe thinking about him, unaware of his betrayl. He could hear Hermione shuffling in the tent, pacing back and forth, faintly hearing the words "Stupid", "Ron" and "wasn't thinking". Finally a fwump of her sitting down rather forcefully on the bed, a few faint sobs and finally...silence.

Harry didn't dare go back into the tent for the rest of the night. Every now and then when he heard movement he would look towards the flaps and wait for Hermione to come out of them, telling him everything was fine and was just a moment of weakness. When she didn't come, Harry felt more lonely than ever. In normal situations like this he would have pulled out the map and stare at Ginny's dot. But even the thought of it made Harry feel sick to his stomach. He couldn't take it anymore and stood up to march into the tent.

Pulling the flap back and peering inside he caught Hermione sleeping on Ron's old bunk. Her face was still a little blotchy from crying herself to sleep. He had grown so tired of seeing Hermione cry that it didn't help the matter that he was the last person to make her do so. He pulled up a stool next to her head and sat down. He reached out his hand to shake her but it hovered for a moment and he withdrew it sharply. He hung his head and the snow that was on his hair had melted from the heat and began to drip down his face.

"Hermione, I am so sorry," Harry whispered to her. " I don't know what I was thinking...you're the last person in this world that I would ever dream of doing this to." Harry slapped his had over his scar and try to rub the prickling away. "I just feel so alone right now... you're here and-" Harry lifted his head up to look at her he could feel his eyes begining to burn, "and....I'm just so scared you're going to leave too, Hermione... you're the only one left..." Harry's whipsers turned into inaudible mouth movements as he shut his eyes hard and covered his face, pushing his glasses askew. He rested his head on the edge of the bed next to Hermione's face and began taking large gulps of air to try and steady himself.

"I think we've done enough crying on this trip, don't you?"

Harry lifted his head and saw Hermione staring at him. Her head resting in her hand giving him a very Hermione-ish "don't be silly" look and he had never been so happy to see it.

"I'm not going to leave you," she said reaching for his hand. " No matter what, " Her eyes were beginning to well up too. Harry half managed a smile and nodded his head. " I promise."

"Are you sure? Cause I might hold you to that."

Hermione pushed herself up and reached for Harry and he dived into her. They sat there holding each other for a very long time, rocking themselves back and forth until Harry decided to go back on watch.

"Are you sure?" asked Hermione as she released him, " I can go."

"No," said Harry as he stood up, "You go back to sleep- I'll wake you in a few hours."

As reached the tent flaps he turned and looked at Hermione. Her eyes had shut almost instantly and Harry smiled..Hermione had finally fallen asleep with a smile on her face. Harry sighed and pushed himself into the dawn of the morning, knowing from her expression that everything was going to be ok.
