i dunno, i'm kinda conflicted about the whole thing. maybe i'd rather ask questions & gather input/generate conversation than formulate an opinion. i mean, jess is right that our country was founded on "revolution & dissent," but breaking away from a country in order to gain more freedom is maybe different than going into a country to gain more money & freedom & then bashing it for providing you w/the ability to do so.

so my questions are these:

-how much "hate whitey" is really taught in these classes?
-if there is any hate taught, is it appropriate for it to be funded thru state tax dollars, or is it more appropriate that those be taught in private schools?
-are race based classes really about teaching hate or history? if its just history, what's wrong w/that/why does it need to be banned?
-how would society feel if someone were to create a "white," "caucasian," "anglo," or "european-american" history class? does anyone want to/would anyone attend? is it possible to teach this w/o including kkk or racism?
-do ppl actually understand that hispanic & mexican are not actually synonymous, a lot of hispanics actually identify as "white," and also a lot of hispanics actually do not like mexicans? [such as jon & my landlords, the Cordovas, its really weird cuz they talk about hating renting to mexicans & stuff, i feel all awkward!]
-what would be the purpose of confiscating teaching materials?

i guess, i understand the whole thing bout free speech, but teachers arent speaking for free, they are getting paid to do it. i once had a class that was taught by a woman who identified as half hispanic & half pueblo. she was openly bigotted against "white ppl," justifying it by saying she's been a victim of racism several times. bigotry doesnt justify bigotry, & i felt really uncomfortable sitting in a class & being told i'm a horrible person bc of my skin color, espec when i paid for the class. i dont think primary school children should be being taught anything like that either. i dont feel like personal opinions needs to be brought into a classroom unless a class is about personal opinion, which most arent. but i also believe its important to teach history, in all its bloody unglory, but the history of the entire country, & not just dominant culture.

i just think all this hatin is what keeps us hatin. there. i am off my box now. i know you are more revolutionary than me. my only means left to rebel is to conform. [i love my bra!]
