here are two things that have happened today:
1. this morning, walking into the chapel amidst hundreds of chattering freshmen, i found dr. mark willhardt, who greeted me with lindsey jane! guess who i got an email from this morning? and after i came up empty-handed, he revealed to me: my mom. my poor mother, who left me a voicemail over the weekend that said i have not heard from you via email, telephone, messenger pigeon, telegraph, or smoke signal for one week. and who i forgot to call. again. as i was leaving my second class with him this afternoon, mark stopped me, said do you have your phone? when i didn't, he said kaitlin, do you? and then he stood there while i called my mom, to tell her that i'm still alive, happy, and healthy. he said hi, joni in the background.
2. to preface:
a) we're reading 1984 in our 'angry young men' literature class.
b) i spread a running joke wherever i went today with the sheer volume of accessories i was wearing. to go to class, i was wearing huge dark bejeweled sunglasses, two strings of obtrusively sparkly beads, my messenger bag complete with tons of shoulder-strap pins, and my ipod (
a visual. the caption is "who, me, obnoxious?") when i met kaitlin for lunch, she was also wearing sunglasses, beads, her messenger bag, and her ipod. later, when we ran into chadd kaiser, who was walking to the same class as us, he was also wearing sunglasses, his messenger bag, and his ipod.
when dr. mark willhardt entered wallace hall this afternoon, he was stopped at the classroom door by kaitlin, chadd, and i, holding hands in our sunglasses, beads (chadd and i shared mine), messenger bags, and ipods, yelling war is peace! freedom is slavery! ignorance is strength! when he tried to go in the door, i said solemnly doubleplusnoclass. he pointed behind him and said i could send you into the dean's office so fast right now and chadd replied hm. doubleplusungood.
I LOVE MY LIFE
ps: hi mom
