Proud owner of my first laptop. Yay. It's an ASUS A3E Intel M1.7GHz Notebook, 512MB, 60Gb DVDDL, 11g, comes with wireless and all that jazz for a good solid grand of my diligently saved dollars. noooooooooooooo!
If you haven't opened it yet, i'd say go back to the store and refund it. Save another grand and get the mid-range MacBook (with an Educational grant you can get it for under 2K).

See if you got a Mac you wouldn't have had to install anything! Everthing is all pre-installed, you literally take it out of the box and turn it on and it's ready to play :)

Take a seat and watch these: http://www.apple.com/getamac/

lol, I do know of these amazing products, but I am required to stay on PC as all my majorly expensive music software are bought in PC format. And um, no I don't have a full time job either! A grand would take forever to save and not to mention that's a whole NZ trip there...

Anyway, this laptop is sufficient for its purposes at this point, I'm still waiting for superior laptop technology to be el cheapo.

Thank you for the suggestion though!
