In 1995 in my hometown, two women were violently attacked and murdered. Their bodies were tossed in the bed of a pickup owned by one of the women, driven out to the woods and dumped. Both women were in their 50s, active members of their church and community, and were outspoken in their support of the less fortunate. Their only crime? They were gay. Loving partners of 12 years, they were caring individuals and vocal advocates for gay rights. The perpetrators of these violent murders were never found.

The community's (including my own family's) response to this was not outrage, as it should have been, but rather ridicule that they were considered good church members even though they were gay. Because such ignorance and callousness runs rampant amongst my family members and the community, this journal will remain private in the off chance that someone I know may stumble upon it. Few entries may be friend's only, but the majority will remain private. If you wish to add me as a friend, please comment here. I can and will read your entries, though you may read very few of mine.
