Well, by empirical I meant by understanding from your own perspective. Rather than assuming that you understand, because you're told to. Or you're told that you should. Rather than being in denial of it, which would be being in denial of myself. Which would deny my starting point. Which would cause me to allow outside sources to do all the self-shaping for me (without thorough personal understanding), which would allow me to be one of those people who prefer facades/religion/culture/etc to stand in place of authentic original self. Authentic original self = more confidence in individual opinion.
