On Grief

What's the general way you deal with grief when you've had a great personal loss (I'm referring specifically to someone dying, but other forms of loss could also qualify) and do you find that your ways of dealing with it are different than others? As I've gotten older I've internalized it quite a bit more, and in some cases have mentally worked out some of the stuff beforehand if I have a bit of warning so I can emotionally prepare for it.

I'm also often accused of not acting like I'm supposed to when someone dies, whatever that means. I think again it's a private process and not a public one for the most part, though of course I'll give condolences, backrubs, etc. to someone who needs it. I have my moments when it catches up to me (I think we all do) but I like to think that I keep them from interfering with the other stuff I need to do.

Any of this surrounding familiar? How do Rationals tend to deal with this sort of thing?

emotions, funerals, grief
