I'll save my angst for my shrink, thanks

What is with people who seem to that that they can just sit down and talk to us and automatically cure us of whatever's bothering us? Because the next person who attempts to get me to talk and cheer me up today is going to get hurt. Really. I personally hate it when people are obviously attempting to get me to cheer up and it usually makes me even madder. And I don't need people pointing out "you're in a bad mood" or stuff like that. Yeah, I knew that already, thanks.

What bugs me about that is that there's an implicit self-satisfaction in people wanting to help you out. When I made the mistake of telling someone about a problem I was having with an acquaintance a few years ago, that person seemed to elevate herself to the status of "good friend" and acted like it, asking if anything else was going on the next time she saw me. Um... no? I didn't even like her, she just happened to be the closest adult who I thought (emphasis) I could trust.

Personally, I prefer to just brood for a while to get it out of my system and try to do something productive in the meantime, such as whack the hell out of the ice on the steps. Just because I don't deal with that sort of thing in the usual way doesn't mean I don't deal with it.

Thoughts? Snarky banter?
