I'm curious about something that I've noticed in my own life, and I'm wondering if it happens to anyone else. When you research things and learn on your own simply because you're interested in the subject, and then somehow come across someone who works in/with what you're researching, and start talking to them about it, do you scare them off? What can be done to change that reaction?
It's happened to me a couple times (online, thankfully), both people with a career I'm interested in. I ask them some basic questions (generally things that I haven't been able to find out, or don't understand), they answer, and then I tell them I've researched such-and-such for x amount of time, learning things on my own, etc. After that, they don't talk to me, or if they do, it's a abrupt and seeming like they'd actually prefer not to talk to me.
Anyone else experiance anything like this?
passion,
intensity
