So last night Jared and I made dinner and decided we wanted to make a hot pepper sauce for our steaks. I bought some random peppers from the store, which I thought were just chilis and jalapenos. So I started cutting up the peppers and tasted a little of each. One of them, the orange one, was so hot that when I put the very tip of my tongue on it it burned my whole mouth and made my eyes water. A little bit later I noticed my face was starting to burn. Then it got so intense I was sweating. I must have touched my face sometime while I was cutting the peppers. My face felt like it was on fire. I didn't know I had bought peppers that hot! I called my mom because I didn't know what to do. She told me to put some aloe on my face, which did end up helping. I was curious about the peppers so I looked them up online. I realized the orange pepper I bought was a HABANERO PEPPER. One of the hottest peppers in the world, 40 times hotter than a jalapeno pepper. Great.
Then Jared had to take out my contacts for me (and put them in this morning) because my fingers still have the oils on them. Underneath my nails still burns.
So, point of story is to stay away from habanero peppers.
