We have our cats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leia got in a truck with her brother and sister a few days ago with a mission to sneak in and get the cats. Her first day on the road is when the fires broke out. We made frantic calls but there was nothing we could do! She made it to BR that night and checked all the shelters with no luck. They had to sleep in the truck that night. The next day they decided to go in! They were able to get into Jefferson Parrish but all the attempts to make it into the city on their own failed. They ended up at the Jefferson Feed Store where they discovered rescue efforts were being staged there before pets would be sent on to Gonzales or Baton Rouge. They somehow convinced one of the guys with access to go in. She gave a $100 donation on the spot as well. Sure enough the guy went out and picked up more cats including ours. Jacob and I jumped in the car and were on our way to meet her in Gonzales. We made it there where we witnessed the efforts being made at the Expo Center. There were hundreds of dogs barking and people everywhere. They really are making an effort. On our way back to the interstate we saw a convoy of trucks just in from NOLA with more animals.

We met Leia in a parking lot and I was reunited with Owen and Angela. All the cats look just fine! They were alone for 12 days. We all said our goodbyes and we were on our way back home. Owen broke out of his cardboard cage and slept in my arms the whole way home. Angela was a little angel (hehe) in her carrier responding with a cute little "meow" when I would ask her if she was ok. I am so proud of these cats. There is no way to know what they have been through. They have adjusted to their new environment so well. I would say they are actually excited to be here. Right now they are running around playing. This house is at least 3x bigger than what they are used to. It's good to discover that my cats travel well and take to a new place so easily.

I am so relieved. I feel like I can finally get on with my new life and stop watching the news. I am so burned out over constantly hitting the refresh button! ahghg! Well I'm sure Leia will tell the story in her own words. I'm just thankful that they had the guts to go in and get something done. I still feel that they would have been eventually reached but waiting 12 days with no word was killing me. The threat of the fires and who knows what else was just more than I could take.

Thank you Leia!!!!!! :)

Now I can relax and be thankful that I have Jacob and my kitties.
