game day

Apr 01, 2006 11:55

It's game day. I've carefully decided the wardrobe (my "GMU--the kryptonite kids" tshirt, jeans, and of course, the fun green and gold ribbons for my hair) and where I'll watch the game (Carpool in Ballston), and just wishing it was 6:07 already.

I was telling someone yesterday that whatever tonight brings, it'll bring a celebration. Every step of the way, we've gotten further than anyone thought we could--so even getting there has been worthy of a celebration. I really believe that tonight we will be celebrating an advance to the championship game.

I want to make sure to take note of some of the awesome stuff that has made me happy this week, and so proud to be a Patriot!

- I went up to campus. I had to breathe in the Mason air, be a part of the excitement. I'd had a rotten afternoon and I knew it would make me feel better. And it did! I was so happy to go up, to feel the awesome energy. I waited on line for a Final Four tshirt, only because it was a short-ish line. Sadly I could only get a grey or white but not the snazzy yellow shirts. Still, it's a great shirt and I wore it proudly yesterday. The only downside of my visit to campus is that it took me 20 minutes to find my car in the parking garage. NOT fun.

- The kids at work yelling "GO MASON" every time they saw me wearing a Mason shirt (I wore one every day but one this week). Also, several teachers and the principal wearing Mason shirts yesterday. Also the end up announcements yesterday, the kids said "Have a good weekend and GO PATRIOTS" yelling the last part into the microphone.

- The fact that no one expects anyone to be doing anything but watching the game tonight. I would be interested to see how many people are at the 5:30 Masses in the Fairfax area!

- Some of the new hysteria makes me laugh. Melissa called me the other day to tell me about a campus "legend." Let's not forget that Mason is a relatively new school -- compared to the other Virginia universities. Anyhow, the reporter says "Legend has it that students would rub the foot of the George Mason statue for good luck as they head off to class to take exams." Ok. This statue is maybe 10 years old. It did not exist when I stepped onto campus as a freshman in 1994, but it was there in 1998 when I left. Legend? Heh.

- I love that my Nanny is watching the games, and that she knows exactly when it starts tonight. She's the best.

- There is more, but I can't think of it right now.

I also love the coverage. LOVE it. I wanted to share with you some of the things that I love most, from Patriot-mania:
