Azula lay on her cot, staring at the ceiling. Ty Lee knelt beside her and pulled one of Azula’s hands from behind her head, holding it in both of her own.
“Azula, come outside with me,” she said. “The doctors said it was okay.”
Azula’s gaze remained glued to the ceiling.
Ty Lee tried again. “You’re lucky, Azula,” she said softly, watching Azula’s face for any sign that what she said got through. “You’ve only been in here a couple of months, and you’re already being allowed into the yard. Come outside. Please?”
Azula’s lips twitched briefly into a frown but remained silent, and Ty Lee sighed. She began to rise when Azula spoke.
“My father told me I was born lucky. He said I would be a great Fire Lord, and I would rule the world. All my life, I believed I would be powerful.” Azula scowled. “Now look at me.”
Ty Lee frowned and brushed Azula’s uneven bangs out of her face. “You’ll still be powerful, Azula. You’ll get better, and you’ll get out. And you’re still a princess. Zuko never took your title away.”
Azula rolled over onto her side, facing the wall. Ty Lee placed a hand on Azula’s shoulder only to be shrugged off. Ty Lee leaned back, watching Azula for a moment longer before rising and heading for the door
