Silent Hill Historical Society
--The Historical Society traces the history of the town with paintings and photographs. After the closing of the prison, the Historical Society was built on its former site. It conveys a sense of the town's history.
Around 1810 the town is resettled as a penal colony. Silent Hill Prison is constructed and is later closed around 1840. Around 1850 a coal field is discovered and Wiltse coal mine opens, which leads to the activation of the town. In 1862 the Toluca prison camp is constructed for POW's. In 1866 the prison camp is converted into Toluca Prison which later closes in the early 1900's.
Rosewater Park
--A park on the water that looks out into Toluca Lake. Stone statues and monuments are erected here and give insight into the town's history. The civil war occured in 1861. The stone statue by the lake is a memorial to Patrick Chester, a soldier who fought in the war at this time.
Some of the statue inscriptions:
Patrick Chester, son of Edward. He fought and died for the people, for liberty and for all our tomorrows. His memory lives on.
Victim of persecution by the Christians, Jenni Carroll lived with pride and honour. What happened here shall never be forgotten.
Toluca Lake
--"Legend of the Lake"
Toluca Lake, the town's main tourist attraction. This clear, beautiful lake has another side as well. It may seem like jsut a typical ghost story that you might find in any number of old towns across the country. But in this case, the legend is true. On a fog-bound November day in 1918m the Little Baroness, a ship filled with tourists, failed to return to port. A newspaper article from then simply says "It mostly likely sunk for some reason." Despite an extensive police search, not a single fragment of the ship nor any of the 14 bodies of passengers or crew has ever been recovered to this day. In 1939, an even stranger incident occured.
many corpses rest at the bottom of this lake. Their bony hands reach up towards the boats that pass overhead. Perhaps they reach for their comrads.
Woodside Apartments & Blue Creaak Apartments
--The Blue Creek Apartment comples was built after the Woodside Apartments.
Brookhaven Hospital
--The hospital was built in 1880 in response to the great plague that followed a wave of immigration into the area. It was originally little more than a shack, but gradually grew and grew.
