10101: memory

He could see from both eyes again - another memory. He hadn't touched a crystal, though - why was this happening? It was a little more disorienting to get used to binocular vision than it had been in the last memory - there had just been space in front of him there - all distance. This place had depth. He could feel, too, soft currents of air against his skin. There was a man there, too - older, greying hair, glasses. Veda could not remember who he was, but something inside said that he liked this man. Trusted him. Belatedly, Veda realized he was speaking, too, and tuned back in to the actual conversation.

"-finally got the specs for your new unit in. GN-008 Seravee Gundam. I think you'll like it."

The Veda in the memory nodded, and he could feel a faint smile on his face. "May I see?" His voice was a little tentative - but curious, too.

The older man laughed, loudly and freely. "Of course! I wouldn't dangle that in front of you if I wasn't going to share. I thought it would make for a good lesson, too." He pushed himself over to a control panel in a slow glide - zero-g environment, it would seem. A few touches, and a model, maybe half a meter tall, appeared in midair between the two of them. It looked like the units he'd seen in his birth-dream, but bulkier. And it was his.

The man continued talking, understandably oblivious to this revelation of Veda's. "We were discussing hydraulics yesterday, so..." Another few flicks at the console, and the outer shell of the model vanished to reveal it's inards. "You can see how the tubing runs deep within the frame - for protection, and for extra external pressure, given the environment. If those rupture - well, you've still got propulsion, but no control."

Veda took a step closer, examining the model more closely. "And the joint motors are housed in these units, right?" He pointed to the large cylindrical casings on the models joints.

The older man nodded. "That's right."

Before he could add more, an intercom crackled to life somewhere among the panels. "Papa! Mr. Erde! If you don't hurry up, you're going to miss lunch!" The voice was a girl's - it sounded like she couldn't be more than fifteen or so, but there was still stern indignation in her words. The older man laughed again, and then hit the intercom button himself. "Alright, Milena. We'll be there in a few minutes." He turned back to Veda. "Guess we'll continue this conversation over food, eh?"
