Over 1,500 farmers in an Indian state committed suicide after being driven to debt by crop failure, it was reported today.

Yet another plane crash in Indonesia - second in a month.  At least neither were commercial flights.

actually, some of the pics that came up for Henan were on a similar theme--apparently it's been an awful drought this spring, and there were all these photos of firefighters and guys in camo coming to water people's crops.

It's strange for me to think that suicide could be that widespread. I don't know, in Indonesia they would either try to find a spiritual cure (possibly dying in the process), start killing people, or start "disaster tourism".

well, yeah, me too. but they're indebted as well. i don't know if there are issues with drinking water too, but that would suck even more.

i hadn't actually read the article till i responded, but the debt part makes much more sense. 'cause you can't kill debt, and the supernatural has no power over it, and no one wants to see it. you're just fucked.

yeah, that's probably true. even in the U.S. people kill themselves over debt, so...
