Today was (yet another) eventful day. :)
Went for church service at Jurong West in the morning. Had a sleepy train ride from Pasir Ris to Pioneer, though I did read Mitch Albom's "Tuesdays With Morrie", too. I love that book, and would love to do a review about it... but not until I cover today's happenings (which I'm afraid I may forget).
Because I reached Pioneer station a little too early, I decided to remain in the train all the way until its stop at Joo Koon. Mainly because I have never seen the train station before. Well, to be honest it isn't very special at all. In fact, it has a rather old design despite the fact that it's a newer train station. Probably because its surroundings are as bleak as the station itself. The station's literally shrouded in a jungle of (deserted) factories.
Ended up reaching church a little late. Service was spent with Dr Phil Pringle, in Part One of his two-series sermon.
After service, I rushed down to Eunos with Hui Jie, Yu Yun & Yi Ren to attend Ms Farhana's wedding lunch. We didn't make it in time in the end, and reached an hour late (unless one possess superpowers, he can't possibly squeeze a 1-hour train and bus ride into a 30-minute one). We also had trouble locating the wedding venue (Eunos Community Club), because it's so deep into the district. The most ridiculous thing was that Bedok Church of Christ, Aljunied Town Council & the community club are smack within the same neighbourhood. That kinda defeats the purpose of having Bedok, Aljunied & Eunos as separate train stations, honestly.
To be very frank, the wedding lunch was kinda boring because 1. we were late, 2. Ms Farhana could not make personal appearances and 3. the food was already almost wiped out. So basically I just went there to eat, chat a bit with my classmates and take a group shot with Ms Farhana (the bride!) and the groom. Today's wedding ceremony was organised by the groom, while there was another one organised by Ms Farhana last night in a hotel. I reckon she invited us for the one today because she's pretty certain we won't be able to produce the red packets customary of wedding functions organised in hotels. But I won't blame her for that, though. It's already good enough witnessing her enjoying the wedding. :)
After the photo-taking session, we rushed to Changi Airport after buying some drinks. Met the rest of the cell group at Tanah Merah station, where we started doing the finishing touches for Mellissa's farewell scrapbook. It was truly a mad rush. In the train ride to the airport, I wrote both my message and completed the cover design. What a feat!
When we alighted, Yi Ren busied himself with tying the scrapbook pages together while rushing to the departure hall. It was hilarious how frantic everyone was, but we made it in time at the end! :) Had a very cheerful though rather emotional farewell with her. At least I'll still be able to keep in touch with her through both Facebook and MSN. Though that doesn't mean I won't miss her dearly. :( Wishing her all the best in her future endeavours, especially her studies in Canada.
After sending her off, we headed to Pasir Ris station. We intended to go to Tina's birthday chalet at Aloha Changi from there. There was a horrible turn in events, though. Basically, the group was really large and hard to manage so one couldn't get his plan across easily. There was even a point in time when the whole group was split into half - one half intended to reach the venue via bus while the other via cab. It took nearly half an hour for everyone to settle down and reach the consensus of reaching there using taxi.
The cab ride was yet another hell. Was in the cab with Yi Ren, Cliff & Stephen. The driver didn't know where Biggin Hill Road was, and Cliff tried hard to get him drive us to the right place. Halfway into the ride, he got really angry at us because he kept demanding for a "main road" which we couldn't give. By the way, he refused to look at the address. When he was conversed to in Mandarin, he threw yet another tantrum, accusing us of being condescending and assuming that he can only speak Mandarin. What's the big deal with being able to speak English, anyway? And why is being able to speak Mandarin such a "small" deal? I don't believe in splitting languages into different classes. We did it with the intention of helping him understand better; nothing else.
After getting dropped off at the resort, we headed to Tina's block for the party.
In short, the party was just... awesome beyond words. The food was GREAT. I loved the pasta and the tomato sauce (it was a blend of capsicums and mushrooms, double the yum!). There were also Oreo cheesecakes, chicken huggets, drumsticks, and sausages with pineapples and cucumbers on a stick. Not to mention, chocolate fondue with an assortment of fruits.
Also, after Tina "blew the candles", the room instantly turned into a disco dance floor. The amazing soundtrack amplified the atmosphere and it was very cool. Although it almost felt like I was in a dance club, I was among the right people. Couldn't dance wildly because of all the strangers in the room, and I ended up leaving the room regularly with my cell group friends. Camwhored like crazy, had a lot of snacks and also crept into the bedroom in the second floor to relax and play card games.
Overall, today was very taxing but somehow it gave me a sense of accomplishment. Didn't feel like the day was wasted. :) I'm so going to rot at home tomorrow and have a good rest before starting work on the 7th. Yippee!
Pictures from today will be up soon. :)
