Summary: There was something about Luna Lovegood that never failed to make him uncomfortable.
Harry stared down at the yellowing page of the textbook, eyes boring into a long sentence lauding nonverbal spell work without actually seeing it. He felt Luna’s large, curious eyes on his face almost as potently as he felt the deep flush creeping up his neck. There was something about Luna Lovegood that never failed to make him uncomfortable.
“Thank you for agreeing to help me with my Defense homework, Harry. It was very kind of you.” Her thin, airy voice floated across the library table.
“What? Oh - ah, you’re welcome Luna. Do you need any…more help with that?” Harry held his breath and swallowed. Let it out. There was no need for him to make a fool out of himself, and yet he managed to do so all the same.
“Oh no, thanks Harry - I think I’ve got it down.”
“Mmm. Well then, I suppose I should get back to the tower.” Harry shoved his book into his bag and slung it over his shoulder. Luna’s voice froze him mid-escape.
“You have a nice face Harry.”
Harry blinked, sure he’d heard wrong.
“Sorry?”
He felt his heart pushing double time as Luna stood and floated over to him, striking blue eyes wide beneath a cloud of wispy blonde hair. She paused just before him - not too close and not too far - and raised a hand to brush his cheek.
“You have a kind face. Bit red at the moment, but -” her thumb dipped into the ridge just below his eye, “strong shapes. Old eyes. Defiant eyes.” Her fingertips trailed upward, ghosting over his scar. “So many stories. Hidden.”
Harry had a feeling his face showed nothing but stark embarrassment at the moment, but stood his ground. He lost track of his racing heart - perhaps it had stopped entirely? - as Luna raised her free hand to frame his face between both palms. She tilted onto her tiptoes. Before he had the chance to think she’d left a soft kiss on his lips and eased away, a smile pulling into the corners of her roseate lips.
“What was th-that for?” Harry blinked, exhaling in a rush.
Luna ran a finger across his lips, eyes glinting.
“Now there’s a new story.”
