oh hey, livejournal

posting out of insomni-istic lack of anything better to do.

my body is on a stay up late-sleep in late schedule, since the earliest i ever have to be anywhere these days is 10am, and that's only once a week.  other days it's  noon or later.  but, tomorrow i have a meeting at 9am and i'm kind of stressing because i'm not asleep yet.  of course, the stressing keeps me awake.  i woke up damn close to noon today (springing forward and all) so it's understandable that i'm not tired yet.

in any case, had a loverly day today.  sun shiny-strollerific-roof sitting kind of day. word. i need to start working out, though. i've come to terms with that.  i went to climb the 4 flights of stairs leading to my roof and got all tired and huffy and puffy, not cool.

oh yea, the reason i have to be up early tomorrow is because i have a meeting with a professor at the university of wisconsin-madison. i applied to work with him and one of his post-docs this summer in ICELAND. crazy, no? i would be helping with studying food web dynamics around lakes. the job is all expenses paid (lodging, food, airfare, etc) plus a small stipend, which is a really good deal for undergrad research. i'm looking forward to the meeting, but i don't really know what i'll talk about.  it's not a job interview per se, so i'll probably sit down with the guy and our conversation will go something like this:

him; who are you? steve welter set this meeting up and i have no clue what it's about
me; oh i'm just a lowly undergrad who wants to travel for free and do science
him: that's cool, what do you want to know about the job?
me: uhhhhh, stuff. i dunno. it sounds cool
...long pause....

other than trying to go to iceland i've been kind of doing school and work.  i'm only taking 9 units so it's pretty easy.  tropical forest ecology is rad, i get to learn more about my previous home. i'm taking a class on human rights which should be really depressing, but the professor puts a positive slant on the lectures and likes to incorporate a lot of artwork, fiction writing, and film into the class so it's really interesting and atypical. i like it a lot.  my senior seminar involves re-starting the student group for my major, so i'm helping put on an festival during earthweek to help get the word out.  i hope it all comes together, it's kind of a lot of work, but i'm enjoying it since it's not regular studying.  i'm also the financial officer of the group now (you know, since i'm "jewish" and therefore good with money), so i've got a lot on my plate there as well.

i also have somewhat of a berkeley social life these days.  i've been seeing a lot of my moorea friends, mainly because i live with one and live next door to another.  it's nice that many of them are newly 21 so they're always down to go out to a bar and hang out.  i practically live at triple rock these days.  i think i was there 3 times this week, although once i didn't stay because i'd left my ID at home.

damn, i should really try to hit the haaaaaaaay. perhaps my strategy of watching alice in wonderland at a low volume will work. here's hoping....
