My intro for the July competition...
Hello everyone! This is just my brief into to the first LJ community I've ever joined. :)
So, who am I? Well, for starters, I'm a 20-year-old college student from the middle of nowhere, Michigan. I'll be a junior when I return to school in August. I am majoring in professional writing with a minor in advertising, so... we'll see how that goes.
As for hobbies, there are the obvious--reading, writing, hanging out with friends. I enjoy painting, drawing, and anything remotely artsy, as well. I have a fondness for cooking that goes beyond my love of good food--it's relaxing, it allows me to busy myself both mentally and physically, and it gives me a chance to take my mind off of whatever is bothering me. It's cathartic, in a way. Same goes for music, although I know a lot of people who could say that. If I listed all my favorite bands here, it could take up the entire page, so I won't bother, but suffice to say that I generally avoid rap and country music. Anything else is fair game. Give me a good beat, lovely lyrics, and a gorgeous melody... and it prooooobably will end up as one of my favorites in no time.
Essentially, I'm your average college student. Confused, destined to live in a cardboard box, nearly broke... oh, you know the drill. As of right now, I have two jobs--one at Little Caesars, where I have made some of my best friends (and met some of the most perverted, infuriating customers), and another at Teen Ink magazine, where I review submissions and make judgment calls concerning potential publication. I enjoy both of my jobs, and between those and my lame excuse for a social life, I've been quite busy this summer.
Anyway, I'm really excited to join this community and have yet another project for July. I can't wait! I would really love to talk to any of you, so if you are feeling bored and/or randomly social, feel free to comment! :)
