- The Girl Talk show on Saturday was awesome. I imagine if you were to look at his brain compared to that of Robin Williams, you'd notice many similarities. They both have an uncanny ability to quickly jump from one concept to another and draw creative connections between the disparate elements. (plus, I think they're both a bit pscyho).
Track after track I found myself looking back at sanjay74 with a total WTF look on my face. He creates a universe where Tom Petty, 2 Live Crew, Nirvana, Daft Punk, Ace of Base, Elton John, and Beyonce can all live together as one happy family. It's the ultimate party music and it's clear to see that it works well on crowds...

Recording hobbiest, iamserio.us, recorded the show in high quality FLAC audio which can be downloaded from here. I'm so glad we have this guy in town.
Here's the Stranger's review and pics. - I saw Lynch premiere Inland Empire a few weeks back and wanted to capture a few of my thoughts on it before I forget.
--The film is certainly not designed to make any new Lynch converts. Its 3 hour length and lack of traditional story line will throw most folks off, but if you've got some patience and curiousity, I think you'll be rewarded.
-- Saying anything about the plot is really to do a disservice to the film. I went in purposefully not reading any reviews, watching trailers, etc and I'm so thankful for that.
-- I agree 100% with Lynch that a film should be viewed ideally, in a dark theater, without anything extra being added to it (like director's commentary for example). I'm all for researching the hell out of the thing afterward, but for a film like this, it's really best to go in with a blank slate.
-- There has been much talk about Lynch's use of DV and whether the look he's arrived at is better or worse than film. Sure, there is a clarity and richness that is missing with DV, but it has it's own look and I think the freedom it's provided him make up for any loss of quality.
-- Laura Dern's acting in the film is fantastic and while I knew the Academy wouldn't acknowledge it, I hope she gets recognition for her work elsewhere.
-- The more I read about Lynch as a person and his working methods, the more his films make sense. Not so much in a "now I know what it all means" sort of a way, but you come to peace with what it is and why it is. There are so few films being made today that fall into this experiential, open to many interpretations category, and I wish there more of them. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.
Having said all that, if you're interested, it's currently playing at the Neptune. I'd love to hear what other people think of it. Another aspect I love about Lynch is his emphasis that everyone's interpretation of his films are valid. My friends' opinions of IE ranged from total adoration, to mild disapproval, all the way to abject hate... and that's totally fine. The fact that it's inspired such a range of emotions to me means that he's created something special. - skymob's new mix delivers the goods as always...
If I were a promoter, I'd book her here in a heartbeat! - Sam Harris's talk to the Long Now foundation on his book, The End of Faith, is fantastic. So many great points in there.
- uploaded a boatload of photos today. Some highlights...
