Given the lack of availability of such a device, I feel compelled to ask if I am the only persn interested in acquiring the following item:
A multimedia player capable of playing music, video, and images along with the ability to store data files, with the following characteristics:
- Enough storage space to store my entire multimedia collection, ie 200+ GB
- Small and light weight enough to workout with, ipod classic size for example
- Simple hierarchical file system that allows you to organize files however you like.
- Standard USB interface that operates like an external hard drive, no software needed or simple light weight sync software.
- Buttons!!! For crying out loud they worked great on cd players and walkmans for ever, why did we get rid of them. Specifically:
---Button volume controls, for precise, discrete volume levels that are hard to accidentaly change.
---A button that when pressed stops playback and sets the resume point to the begining of a song/video if playing a song or video, or the begining of a playlist if playing from a list. Not pause, not back, a stop button. It's always been there, why did it go away?
---Standard dual use ff/next, rew/back buttons, pause/play plus up down left right select navigation buttons.
-Price tag under $250
So yeah, I want an external hard drive with a light OS, a screen, and some buttons. Am I alone in the world? Are people really content with at most 120 GB of media on their portable media players?
