So AEPhi was helping out this morning at the Monument 10K. Of course, the only ones of us who showed up are the six people who come to everything. We expected a couple more, but whatever. We didn't really do anything. We were supposed to help watch the kids after they finished the Kid's Fun Run (1 mile, and they finished in just about 7 minutes) until they're parents came to pick them up. Parents came pretty quickly and the kid's wouldn't talk to us despite our name tags and volunteer shirts. So we pretty much stood around making sure kids didn't break through the barrier and that no one was yelling "This is not my mom! This is not my dad!" There was one guy who couldn't find his daughter, but he only told us five things about her, some of which were not helpful: she was 6 years old, blonde hair and blue eyes, wearing a yellow shirt, and "the cutest kid in the race." Well six years old, blonde, blue-eyed, and wearing a yellow shirt would be extremely helpful, but I counted about 26 girls fitting that description (almost all the kids were in yellow shirts). The cutest kid in the race? NOT HELPFUL. He's yelling, we're looking (we weren't yelling, though, because this guy was louder than we ever could have been). And after about 5 minutes we see him pick up his cell phone and he shuts up, closes the cell phone, and walk away. I think his wife must have had their daughter.
The only place I could find to park was in front of our new apartment, a mile away. It took me 25 minutes to walk and it started to rain. I may need to get my bike out here, and a bike lock.
Then later there were some mascots walking around and a bird came up to me and put his arms around me and was talking to me. I couldn't see who it was in there, but I get the feeling I knew him...If I didn't, then it was a little creepy.
And now I'm watching the Phantom Gourmet. They're talking about "big portions and bountiful buffets." There's now several places I have to go to this summer. Suppa's in Lowell: they have a deep fried cheese steak sub, a two foot chicken parm sub made with fried mozzerella and chicken fingers and topped with french fries before getting sauce, a philly cheese steak with onion rings on top, and a pizza topped with baked ziti. Disgustingly fattening, yes, but delicious, I'm sure! The Nordic Lodge has an all you can eat lobster buffet (along with other things, but why would you bother with anything else?) and that's in Charlestown, RI. In Newington and Windsor, CT is a place called Doogie's with 16" monster hot dogs, burgers, philly cheese steaks, and all the sides. A place called Abington Ale House (in Abington, natch) has giant portions of pub food, like chicken pot pies. Eagle's Deli makes burgers with the smallest being 1/2 lb. And fries served by the tray-full.
I have these random really deep but very small cuts on my leg. I don't know how they got there. And they don't hurt. And they're on my upper leg, so they aren't shaving cuts (I only shave my upper legs, since the hair is really sparse and light and fine, in bathing suit weather or if I'm going out on a date...just in case).
OK now it's off to take nap (I was up really really early this morning for the 10K, and I walked two miles and was on my feet for three hours) and then do lots of work on my two skirts.
