Good News!!!

I got a response from one of the professors I emailed about a reference letter for my application. I was worried he'd be too busy but everything seems to be pretty cool since I'm doing all of this several months before the due date. I was really strong in that class about getting things in on time and I got an A in there so I'm sure that I'll have a pretty strong reference letter from him. Not to mention I'd never worked so hard in a class in my entire life -- and it's Asian Studies so it applies to my application.

Now I just have to see if I get a response from Japan. It would be perfect if I had Japanese references. I'm feeling really good about this so far. Just have to cross my fingers and wait a few more days for the next reference letter.

I was really worried that I wouldn't get a response from the professor, but then I put myself in his shoes and asked myself how I'd feel if one of my students asked me to write them a reference letter. I came to the conclusion that I'd be honored to. It feels good to have people depending on you as long as there's not too much responsibility involved.

I've been thinking of where I'd like to live in Japan. I have friends in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Okayama but I always like to try something new and different. I've been thinking of trying out Hirosaki or Tsugaru, but Tsugaru dialect is disastrously difficult for an American student more fluent in the standard Tokyo-like Japanese taught in school. At least I've got a good grasp of the Kansai dialect. No matter where I want to go, I'll probably end up in Shiga so the real question is the environment I want to live in -- rural, urban, suburban, or city. Well, at least I don't have to decide until I get the reference letters back. Till Later!
