Jinki knows what Jonghyun is trying to do. In fact, he figures it out in a split second. The moment Jonghyun edges closer to him and suddenly has his line of sight focused on his lower body, Jinki becomes hyperaware of the situation.

But it’s only their first official date together and Jinki honestly feels that things are moving too fast. If he were to let Jonghyun get his way so easily with him at such an early stage of their relationship, Jinki knows he’s doomed for the rest of his life.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have picked the haunted house as their first destination at the theme park. Then, it wouldn’t feel as if Jinki is practically offering himself to Jonghyun right there and then. It’s too late though. There’s no turning back once they’ve entered the haunted house. Jinki can already feel Jonghyun’s knuckles lightly bumping against his. All that’s left is for his hand to slip into his...

“Uuunngggghhhh!!”

It happens when both Jinki and Jonghyun least expect it. A zombie comes charging out of a hidden side door, directly towards them with its grubby hands outstretched in an attempt to catch them. Of course, it doesn’t actually want to and simply runs away once it successfully scares the living daylights out of Jinki and Jonghyun, all of this made easier since both of them aren’t exactly paying attention and have their minds elsewhere.

Even though they both know the zombie isn’t real, Jinki and Jonghyun find themselves getting a shock of their lives. Almost going weak in their knees, they end up leaning against a wall together with barely any distance between their bodies.

“What the hell...” Unhappy that he has been frightened so easily, Jinki silently curses under his breath as he tries to calm himself down from the scare.

He looks over at Jonghyun, wanting to hear some form of agreement that he isn’t the only one who got scared, but all Jinki gets is possibly the widest grin Jonghyun has ever smiled in his life. And that’s saying a lot considering how poor the lighting is in the haunted house.

“You find it funny?” Jinki asks, surprised.

“No...” Jonghyun replies, clearly fighting to hold back a laugh.

“It’s funny, isn’t it?” Jinki asks again and points out, “That’s why you’re laughing.”

“It’s not, hyung.” Jonghyun shakes his head earnestly and emphasizes, “That’s not it.”

“Then why on earth are you smiling?” Jinki is more amused than anything at this point in time.

At the same time Jinki sees Jonghyun lifting his hand up, Jinki also feels his own hand being raised in the air.

“Oh.” Is all Jinki can say when he realises he is holding Jonghyun’s hand.

Now when did that happen? Jinki thinks he must have unintentionally grabbed Jonghyun’s hand on instinct when the zombie appeared out of nowhere.

“I, umm...”

Embarrassed, Jinki is just about to release his grip on Jonghyun’s hand when the younger spoils his plan by interlocking their fingers and tightening his hold on his hand.

“It’s okay, hyung.” Jonghyun smiles as he brings their hands back down to their sides, “You can hold my hand as much as you want to.”

Confused at the sudden turn of events, Jinki blinks once, twice, thrice, and is rendered speechless. He isn’t given much time to react though because Jonghyun decides they should continue on their way.

“Let’s go, Jinki hyung.”

While Jonghyun begins leading the way out of the haunted house with a smirk on his face, Jinki can only smile helplessly as it hits him that some things are just meant to be.

jongyu, onew, drabble, shinee, jonghyun
